AI presents enormous challenges for our creative sector, yet there is an enormous complexity of stakeholders with widely different areas of expertise, points of view and goals. The Creative AI Research Network (CAIRN) is an Australia-wide interdisciplinary forum that brings together diverse AI research and practices with a shared interest in AI’s impact in the creative sector. A primary goal is to enable cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange of expertise and insights, including: technical developments; legal debates; creative industries sociological, economics and policy research; First Nations perspectives; emerging creative cultures and practices; and philosophy. A secondary goal is to support a shared literature for better understanding the value of our creative sector, and serving public benefits through that understanding.
We are in an initial phase of development, bringing together a membership comprised of academics and public sector professionals from across the creative sector. During this phase we will host online seminars.
A follow-up phase will seek to give a basic formal structure to the network, inviting co-design from members.
